Initiative to improve the food supply chain

The European Commission has launched a Public Consultation with the aim to find out if the stronger bargaining position of certain operators and weaker positions for smaller operators in the food supply chain are unfair trading practices that call for EU wide action.

The food supply chain includes all actors and activities from farm to fork and the current consultation specifically concerns unfair trading practices (UTPs) along the food supply chain.

As examples for UTPs, the Commission names, among others: unduly late payments or unilateral or retroactive changes to contracts.
